How to combat Old Age?




How to combat old age? The following are the ways and means to postpone our old age and lead a healthy life till the last breath.

Need for Food-

  • Young and growing body, physically active needs a great deal of carbohydrates, proteins, fats etc. to feed and repair the rapidly growing body. But after 30, growth ceases and there is much less physical activity and therefore much less need for these foods. As we advance in years, these foods should be reduced in amount but replaced by elimination fruits and vegetable.

  • Now and then take Garlic, Ginger, Amla, Seeds and leaves for Fenugreek (Methi) according to your digestive power.
  • To prevent premature old age, eat cantaloupe (Phoot), cashew nut, and potato, tomato, according to your digestive and eliminative powers.
  • All flesh foods, coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, refined and processed foods and other stimulants and intoxicants etc.  Should be abandoned
  • Eat in moderation according to your digestive capacity. Excess of food interferes with the peristaltic action of the alimentary canal
  • In your healthy state, a ratio of 80% Alkaline to 20% of Acid in needed. But whenever you are sick, Alkaline Diet should be cent percent, and it may be given in the shape of raw, boiled, soups or juices.
  • Foods consisting of cellulose or roughage and water content are lighter and easier to digest and are also like laxatives.
  • “The excessive use of table-salt causes premature old age as the arteries harden”
  • Sit in Vajrasana after taking your meals or lie down on the left side of your body for a few moments.

  • Especially-Anuloma-Viloma, Ujjayi, Shitali, Bhramari, Bhastrika etc. to preserve the elasticity of your and flexibility of arteries and blood vessels
  • Those who can’t practice yogasana and pranayamas, they may do massage of the whole body, Brisk walking, running, jumping, jogging, dancing, clapping, swimming, deep breathing, laughing, singing etc. etc…..

  • Technique to Delay the Old Age-give two minutes intermittent pressure with the thumb of left hand on the central point-one inch circle one right hand-between the wrist and elbow. This will enable one to maintain one’s youthfulness for a longer period and delay the old age.
  • While pratising Sarvangasana on empty stomach; pull up the Anus, contract its muscles for a moment; then release its muscles and relax them. It is curative for constipation, piles and semen problem.

Relaxation-

  • Rest, sleep, meditation, silence, corpse posture, etc…. cure lots of psy-cho-somatic disorders. They relieve tension, anxiety, remove physical and mental fatigue: Corpse posture- it is effective for blood pressure, heart troubles, fatigue, headache, nervousness etc. etc….
  • Meditation acts as yogic tranquillizer. It brings peace of mind, health, happiness and longevity etc.



  • Rest is curative. A tired body cannot circulate blood properly
  • Fasting will give your digestive system a rest and you may depend upon it that whenever the digestive organs complain, they need a rest.
  • Observe silence (speechless, muteness) for a day or so. This will conserve your vitality and give you peace of mind
  • Sleep is the best cure for waking trouble. It is a sort of prolonged relaxation. It refreshes and renovates both mind and body.

  • Mud or Clay-bath is the best remedy against boils, psoriasis, eczema, rashes etc.”In high fever, an application of mud poultice on the head and abdomen is very useful”

  • Have optimistic attitude of Life-Think your, feel young, and act young. Thus you will remain young.

  • Have only positive thoughts and not negative one’s which lead to ailments and diseases
  • In case of any evil or negative thought, laugh it away. Laughter aids digestion and circulation and has rejuvenating effect on the entire body as well as on the mind.
  • While going to bed, throw off all the cares and worries of the day, but pray to God for health and longevity. Meditate, and relax in corpse posture.
  • When you get up in the morning, don’t say- “I feel one day younger”.

  • In the beginning the mind may be restrained or silenced by Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Trataka etc; but the best way to silence the mind is through pranayama. It makes the mind steady and burns the dross of the mind. It increases the mental energy and develops thought control
  • “When angry, count then before your speak if very angry a hundred.”
  • Dismiss anger with a happy thought
  • Take a glass of water, wash face and eyes
  • Do shitali pranayama



  • Meditation is the most important way to fight fear and insecurity. Though it we succeed to tranquilize the mind.
  • Unless you control your mind and emotions, your chances of permanent health, youthfulness and long life are prejudiced.

There are endless things to keep you away from boredom and tension of life. In your leisure you can take up fine arts, hobbies, playing; social work or voluntary service in the hospitals, blind school, visit holy places, go on tours, picnics, excursions; wee cartoons and films; read comics, tit-bits; etc. recreations will keep you evergreen. They will add spice to life.

7 Main Obstructions of good health and live longer | we always find our enemies outside but unknowingly we have many enemies inside us, here we will be discussing 7 main obstructions which are the most culprit of our good health and live longer.

1. Mind-


Concentration and attention of mind is essential for the performance of anything. But the mind is very restless like a monkey or child; wanderer like a dog; obstinate like a donkey; destroyer like a ghost (Devil); moving from one shrub to another like a goat etc--- How can we attain Health and longevity, if we allow our mind to wander away in any direction it likes? Almost all diseases originate from the mind and they healed finally with the aid of mind.

The new studies strongly indicate that virtually every ill that can behalf the body- from the common cold to cancer and heart disease- can be influenced, positively or negatively by a person’s mental state.

2. Negative Thoughts-


Doubts and illusions, hatred and lack of strong faith, discourage a person and will have a destructive effect on the vitality, will power, mind and nervous system. Negative thoughts which disturb the mind are the primary cause of almost all ailments and diseases. The great German Pilosopher, Schopenhauer, who was a pessimist, suffered from chronic stomach troubles. According to Dr. Masaharu Taniguchi of Japan- “Ghastly mental pictures of disease, sensuality and vice of all sorts, produce scrofula and leprosy in the soul, which reproduce them in the body.” Every change in thought makes a vibration in the mind and this is transmitted to physical activity.

3. Evil Habits-


Lying, stealing, cheating, dishonesty, adultery, gambling etc are always accompanied with the fear of being found out ore losing. Irregularity, un punctuality, idleness, unsteadiness, violence, carelessness, sensuality, arrogance, crookedness, narrow mindedness, talking ill of others, prejudices, irritability etc--- are the energy wasting obstructions which must be shaken off to attain good health and to prolong life; otherwise one will remain unhealthy.

4. Negative Emotions-


Medical experiments and psychological researches have started realizing that the most of the physical disorders are manifestations of mental and emotional disturbances. They have proved that emotions are dangerous and lead to various illnesses, such as- heart attacks, cancer, T.B, Polio, paralysis, leprosy, asthma, wind trouble etc—Most of the heart disorders are decidedly psychosomatic.

The main negative emotions:


Lust (Sex):

Lust is the Himalayan weakness of a person, when a health seeker is overpowered by Cupid and can’t control his lust; he is deprived of a healthy body and a vigorous mind.

Anger:


“Anger changes the chemical properties of the saliva to a poison, dangerous to life.” “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything of which it is poured”. When a man is angry, there is too much Adrenalin released into his blood stream, leading to various harmful diseases.

Greed:

Cravings for too much accumulation of things dislocate the mind.

Ego:

The Egoist thinks himself to be too wise to tolerate the opinions of others. This self-conceit creates mental tension and blocks up his further progress.

Jealous:

It is the combination of fear, anger, and the desire to have and to hold more than others.

Fear:

It is the most destructive emotions. After the bombardment of Strangburg in 1870, many cases of diabetes developed due to fear and anxiety.

Worry:


It is a state of fear of something which may never happen and so it is a foolish waste of energy. Probably most of the worries never materialize. Worry weakens the will power, saps the nerve force and unsteadies thought power.


Anxiety:


Anxiety or even sudden joy is often followed by diarrhea. A state of anxiety can also be the cause of chronic constipation.

Grief:

It takes away the appetite instantly. Like fear, it also leads to graying of hair. It reduces and impairs secretion of gastric juices.

Self-Pity:


It is the mental consumption. Some people always complain and grumble that they are the most unfortunate persons on earth. They generate inferiority complex. They suffer from constipation, insomnia etc.

Disease is nothing but the punishment for the violation of Nature’s Laws in eating, drinking, breathing, working, resting, thinking etc—in other words, disease (especially chronic constipation) is nothing but the accumulation of poisons and impurities produces by wrong food which is not easily digested and eliminated due to wrong living, defective organs, and emotional disturbances. A diseased person can’t attain good Health and Longevity.

They must be altogether abandoned- such as, opium, cocaine, heroin, hashish, smack, snuff, ganja, wine, bhang, bidis, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, synthetic vitamins, inorganic salts, flesh, eggs, coffee, tea, cocoa, white flour products, white bread, spices, white sugar, refined oil, polished rice, tinned- denatured-fried, refined- overcooked- preserved-frozen and processed food, pasteurized milk.
  • Drugs impair the functions of all the vital organs and vital systems.
  • Over eating and wrong combination of food stuffs lead to ailments.
  • Chilies, stimulants, intoxicants, flesh etc make a person angry.

We are living in a ‘Pollution Age”. Industrial growth has given rise to Environmental Pollution. Ether pollution, Air pollution, Sun-rays Pollution, Water Pollution, Soil Pollution, Food Pollution etc.

Ether Pollution (Noise Pollution):

It is created by mills, automobiles, loud speakers etc. It produces irritability and stress which may be the cause of Cancer, Heart and Mental Troubles, Deafness etc. It has harmful effect on mind and various systems

Air Pollution:


It is produce by smoke and poisonous gases of automobiles and mils and the tobacco smokers etc. It is the cause of T.B, cancer, asthma, throat troubles etc.

Sun- rays Pollution:

Industrial cities are full of dust, smoke, moisture, fog etc which block up the Ultraviolet rays to reach the earth. The people of those places suffer from T.B, cancer, Gout, Rickets, Nervous debility etc.

Water Pollution:

Water is polluted by Industrial wastes- such as, mineral, dyes, pigments acid, etc. It causes diseases-such as, cholera, Typhoid, dysentery, worm diseases etc.

Soil Pollution:

Fertilizers are used for the production of more cereals which have no food value but merely bring forth numerous diseases.

Food Pollution (Adulteration):


The greedy businessmen and Shopkeepers make adulteration in all kind of food stuffs to earn more profits. They are the Agents of Death and cause lots of incurable diseases.
